Pelican - Mikael

 August 2024

Scroll 2 of 2 that went out at Pennsic - Pelican for Mikael Melrakki. This again was from a photo from Margreta's Sweden trip. This one is in the Swedish History Museum (Historiska Museet) currently with their Viking World display (https://vikingar.historiska.se/object_details.php...). I like that this one lined up well with elements from his persona. I also liked that this "modern" paint was redone to be in line with other similar aged stones had for color and motif (per a note in the museum's write up on the extant piece). It makes me feel like what I'm doing is more "real". I don't carve any of my stones due to space and safety constraints (I have a young child and two very well meaning and nosy cats....Also let's be real. I am clumsy as heck.)

I didn't change much here due to a request to keep it simple, serious, and as authentic as I could. The build in "drop" invoked a clear sense of the Pelican, so I didn't add anything else to the illumination other than extending some of the beasties downward. I did not do any text on the black bc the contrast I was getting with my materials was crappy and my hands were tired. This made me shorten the last bit of text to instead of saying "Feilinn raised this stone in AS fifty nine", it just says "Feilinn AS 59". I did not add the white to the beast's eyes because I felt it would have made them look like Urnes style googley-eyed monsters.

Chivalry - Thorin

 August 2024

Scroll 1 of 2 that went out at Pennsic - Chivalry "scroll" for Thorin mac Cianain. Based on U 937 (one of the Funbo runestones), this is one that Margreta got a picture of for me while she was in Sweden. It really is apparently just hanging out in a park chilling and waiting to be admired. I liked the x punctuation mark between the words (an indication this stone was done by runemaster Fot per online sources). I swapped out the triquetra for the Chivarly belt.

Margreta's photo of the exemplar. Just chillin'.

Silver Rapier - Ozurr

 May 2023

A runestone Silver Rapier scroll given at crown tournament in May 2023 to a dear friend.  I obviously meant to post this earlier, but I ended the day as Princes so........

I was absolutely delighted to do this runestone for Ozurr. :)  It's based on U 839 located in Uppland, Sweden.

This is acrylic on stone with a a matte sealant.  Runes were done with a micron pen.

Maunche - Sefa

 May 2022

This was a weird one only because I was ahead of schedule, then I got Covid, and then I worked on finishing this while incredibly sick.

Rock by Feilinn. Acrylic on stone, matte finish sealer.  Stone is based on U 1163 located in Uppland, Sweden.

Rune translation by Avaldr Valbjarnarson

Words: "As Sigurd fought Fafnir, so did Sefa Hrafnsdottir face the arts with skill and prowess. Ryouko’jin and Indrakshi raised this stone in her honor and bestowed a Maunche."

Exemplar: U1163
